Jacob's life lessons »

Series: The lives of Issac and Jacob

In this chapter Jacob has arrived in Padan-aram (Haran). Unlike his father he does not pray to the LORD regarding marriage. He meets the beautiful Rachael and appears to fall head over heels in love - much like Samson who considers looks over godliness. Even though being tricked into marrying Leah Jacob becomes a bigamist and marrys Rachael - clearly disregarding God's will of having only one wife. Leah is a godly woman but falls into sin in colluding with her father Laban in this deceitful plan. Notice too how Rachael has no objection in entering into such a marriage.

The reason for the suffering of God's people »

Series: The life of Moses

Last week we considered the suffering of God's people. In this sermon we have a further examination regarding the suffering of God's people but this time as to reason's why they are suffering in Eygpt. It is when we remember what God has already revealed that we begin to discover and understand the world we live in. The persecution of the church (people) of God is an ancient battle stretching far back in the mists of time to Genesis 3:15. The dragon as he is referred to in Revelation 12:3-9 has sought to destroy the church especially in OT times to prevent the birth of God's Christ - and since his failure seeks to devour the church in NT times. However this is not the only reason why at times the church of God suffers.
