Witnessing for Christ

Series: The Book of Acts

Paul moves to Corinth. Here we see that which Luke describes in Acts 1:1 as those things "which Jesus began to do and teach". In this second volume of Luke's God inspired record we are encouraged to take notice of how the apostle Paul witnessed to the various populace of this notorious city and port, Corinth.

Blessed are the pure in heart

Series: Studies in The Sermon on The Mount

In this verse is it as if Christ is saying "No more pretending!" Christ's Word comes in power as it delves into the secret parts of the hearts to reveal how the heart is deceitful above all things and desperately wicked and impresses upon the hearers at the Sermon on the Mount the necessity of having a pure heart. In this sermon Rev Robb expounds on the heart which God Himself has declared to be the seat of religion.

Sirs, what must I do to be saved?

Series: The Book of Acts

Unfolding in this portion of Scripture is the sovereign and eternal purpose of God both in providence and election. Here Luke records not only the fact of the gaoler's conversion but also the facts surrounding his conversion. The gaoler's conversion does not begin at verse 25 but rather we see how the LORD ordered providence from verse 16 to 24 where Paul, Silas and Luke end up locked in a cell. In this sermon we consider the gaolor's question and Paul's reply.

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy

Series: Studies in The Sermon on The Mount

Today's consideration is the 5th beatitude. This beatitude, as does the remaining beatitudes continues to examine the christian's character. We have as it were, a reminder of the second table of the Ten commandments (Commandments 5 - 10) which refers to the duty God that requires of man to his or her neighbour. The christian ought then to possess mercy and be merciful to their neighbour for of such is their Father in Heaven who is plenteous in mercy.

Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness

Series: Studies in The Sermon on The Mount

In a world filled with conflict of sorts and types and in particular wars, Martyn Lloyd-Jones comments regarding this verse that "If every man and woman in this world know what it was to hunger and thirst after righteousness, there would be no danger of war. Here is the ONLY way to real peace."

A Biblical blueprint for dealing with problems in the church

Series: The Book of Acts

As the church of Jesus Christ grows problems are most certain to appear. In this chapter we consider the Biblical pattern for dealing with problems that arise in the church. The problem in this case was doctrinal. Many today think that doctrine isn't important but here we see how serious the New Testament church were concerned about doctrine. As we read this chapter we quickly come to realise that this was a most serious error - being that trusting in Christ alone was not enough to secure salvation. An error which unfortunately is still with us today. Many today still think that Christ's work on the cross is insufficient as trusting in Christ alone for them is not enough but will add other things such as church membership, baptism and good works. But let us hear what the Scriptures saith.

Blessed are the meek

Series: Studies in The Sermon on The Mount

Jesus tells us here that the meek shall inherit the earth. But what is that meekness and that inheritance? In this sermon we shall consider those graces which flow from our conversion of which meekness is one and of which is a work of God. Finally for our meditation is the inheritance of the meek.
